アメリカ英語では「fiber」と表記する用語に対して世界共通で採用されているスペル．ファイバチャネル技術にはイギリス式表記の「fibre」が選択された．ただし，ファイバチャネルに対して定義されたファイバ光学技術を記述する際にはアメリカ式表記の「fiber」が用いられる．
